| UNC International Film Series: "Footnote" |
|
Event Description Eliezer (Shlomo Bar-Aba), a purist scholar at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, desires the attainment of only one achievement in his career as a professor: the Israel Prize. But each year, he is rejected. Eliezer's son Uriel (Lior Ashkenazi), also a professor at the University, is well-liked and recognized by his colleagues. Enmity towards his son takes root in Eliezer's heart, while Uriel strives to help his father receive the recognition he so desperately desires by submitting an application each year, in his father's name, for the Israel Prize. Events lead to a mistake in the selection of the recipient of the Israel Prize, which puts Uriel in a difficult position. Footnote, directed by Joseph Cedar, relates a story of the academic rivalry between a father and son which tests their bond as family and scholars.
