| UNC International Film Series: "Orphanage" |
|
Event Description Orphanage (Spain, 2007, 105 min.)
Director Juan Antonio Bayona debuts with the chilling, poetic horror film Orphanage. Laura (Belen Rueda) and her family move back into the orphanage where she spent her childhood with the intention of reopening the orphanage as a home for disabled children. But her plan strays from its original objective when her son, Simon (Roger Princep), begins seeing five invisible children. After disregarding Simon's assertion, she and her husband, Carlos (Fernando Cayo) continue with their plans of reopening the orphanage as a home for disabled children. Only when her son disappears does Laura begin to understand the mystery of the five invisible children and the history of the place she once called home.
