Schulze Speaker Series: Stanford Professor John Willinsky

Event Description:
John Willinsky, Khosla Family Professor of Education at Stanford University, will give the first 2013-14 Schulze lecture. His lecture is titled "The Public Good of Research and Scholarship: The Long View from Medieval Monastery to Modern University." Professor Willinsky will review the history of higher learning, with a focus on the struggles over the ages to produce a public good of appreciable value. He will consider the economic, legal and intellectual properties of research and scholarship and the dilemmas and opportunities we face today in advancing their place in a democratic society.
